Plastisol Screen Printing Inks

Plastisol screen printing inks have become a staple in the Irish printing industry, known for their versatility and durability. These inks are composed of PVC particles suspended in a plasticizer, resulting in a unique ink that doesn't dry or evaporate at room temperature. This characteristic offers several advantages, including extended screen life, vibrant colors, and excellent opacity on dark fabrics.

Composition

  • Main components: Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resin and plasticizers
  • Characteristics:
    • Thick consistency
    • Does not dry at room temperature
    • Requires heat curing to set properly

Applications

  • Textile Printing: Ideal for t-shirts, hoodies, and other garments due to their durability and wash-resistance.
  • Promotional Items: Commonly used on items like tote bags, caps, and sports uniforms.
  • Excellent opacity and vibrant colors
  • Suitable for high-volume production

Environmental Impact

  • Non-biodegradable due to PVC content
  • Proper disposal required to prevent environmental contamination
  • Some countries have regulations limiting PVC use in textiles
